I recently took part in a piece of research by Chloe Lambert for the Daily Mail (Mail Online Health) entitled “Do doctors practice what they preach? From the dentist with ten fillings to the dermatologist with acne, we meet the experts who suffer from ailments they treat”

It was fun article to be featured in with stories about dermatologists; neurologists; gastroenterologists amongst others. But it had a serious message underlining it from each of the specialist clinicians.

Many dental patients are worried about metal fillings and it seems to put them at ease to know that I have a mouthful of metal, would you believe ten fillings in total!! And I would have no qualms about putting them in my young children’s mouths either.

So how did it come about? Ironic really, as when I was a child, my mum used to give me a bag of toffees as a reward for being brave at the dentist. Being a goody two shoes, I’d make my toffees last all day, while my brother would scoff them all at once. The result? He has no fillings, I have many.
